Petrichor is a combination of two Greek terms, one of which is simply bad-ass.
πέτρα petra (stone) and
ἰχώρ īchōr (the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods).
It’s hard to explain why this image is so compelling. I get a kick out of words that describe things so foreign to me that I can only react with wonder. Certainly not a word to drop in conversation, but I see words like this as flowers placed throughout the living room of my mind. They don’t change or really do anything, but they give a bit more life to something that could become sterile and bland.
